`RM' symbol for our currency
THE New Straits Times will from today use "RM" as the symbol of the Malaysian currency instead of "$". This is in line with Bank Negara's call for the usage of the new abbreviation which stands for Ringgit Malaysia, applicable for both Bahasa Malaysia and English versions. The abbreviation was first used by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the text of his 1993 Budget speech in October last year.
