Banking on the `mat motor' magic

IT cannot be denied that Tayangan Unggul's most successful film to date was its second film, KL Menjerit. The film, produced in 2001, earned RM2.5 million at the box office and received eight awards (including Best Film and Best Director) at last year's 16th Malaysian Film Festival (FFM), though some people felt that its production value was less sterling than its closest competitor, Filem Negara Malaysia's Embun, the story about a gritty "mat motor" in Kuala Lumpur searching for his identity struck a chord with moviegoers and the 16th FFM's jury.
