Most beautiful Malay movie produced so far

A SHOT-BY-SHOT and scene-by-scene analysis of Sayang Salmah may well reveal it to be the most beautiful Malay movie ever made. It's a "wow" movie: so much care had been lavished on it, manifested in particular by its art direction, cinematography and composition of shots, that I found myself letting out small yips of excitement at strategic moments. The period detail of the 1950s is captured so lovingly, in gold-tinted hues, that some tiny incongruous details hardly matter. The attempt alone - not to mention the stunning use of colour, light and shade - earns our respect.
