Customs seize cigarettes worth RM16,000

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Customs seized the second biggest haul of contraband cigarettes this year with more than RM160,000 in unpaid duties in Marang. Its director, Abdullah Zawawi Abdul Latif, said in the 2pm raid on Wednesday in Kampung Padang Mengkuang, police found 1,542 cartons of cigarettes with a street value of more than RM16,000. Abdullah said two men, aged 44 and 42, from the village in Bukit Payong were arrested. Investigations revealed that the items (kretek and white cigarettes) were smuggled in from Indonesia and Vietnam.
