Ops Checkmate to cut traffic offences

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Road Transport Department has launched Ops Checkmate to help reduce road accidents in the country. RTD director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said the operation, which began on March 1, was a continuation of the Chinese New Year Ops Sikap XXI. It will be a 24-hour programme carried out by 13 state offices, 18 branch offices and 50 enforcement stations nationwide for an indefinite period. "We will deploy 1,500 officers for the operation," Solah said. The operation aims at curbing speeding express buses and traffic offences as well as tracking foreign vehicles violating the International Circulation Permit. -- Bernama
