Lufthansa cargo plane crashes in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Wed: A cargo plane belonging to German airline Lufthansa crashed in Nepal today shortly after taking off from Kathmandu airport, state radio said. The radio said the Boeing 727 crashed at about 7:45pm(1400 GMT). The condition of the aircraft's five crew members was not immediately known, police said. "It was carrying general cargo," an airport official said but did not elaborate. He said the aircraft was on its way to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates after a scheduled technical stop in New Delhi. The official said it crashed in the forest near the hills overlooking the capital Kathmandu. Police said rescue workers had rushed to the site which was accessible only on foot. -…
