SMI appoints ousted director as CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Property company South Malaysia Industries Bhd (SMI) has appointed former executive director Leow Thang Fong as its chief executive officer, effective last Wednesday. Leow, 72, was first appointed to the SMI’s board on Sep 29, 1994 but was voted out by shareholders after a 30-year stint. According to a filing with Bursa Malaysia, he was voted out during an annual general meeting on March 27, with shareholders holding 51 per cent of the voting shares agreeing to remove him from the board of directors.
