Sustaining the growth momentum

WE have successfully steered the economy out of the crisis with strong growth in GDP of 5.8 per cent in 1999 and 8.5 per cent last year. However, there is growing evidence that the US economy may experience a greater siowdown than earlier anticipated. This calls for a review of our official growth estimate of 7 per cent for 2001 that we announced in the recent Budget. Growth estimates are being revised and details will be announced when Bank Negara releases its Annual Report on March 28 2001.
