Megat Junid loses to Mat Basir

THE Barisan Nasional (BN) retained Perak by securing 44 out of 52 state assembly seats and 19 of 23 parliamentary seats contested in the state. The biggest upset for BN in Perak was when Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Megat Junid Megat Ayob lost to Pas commissioner Mat Basir Rahmat for the Parit parliamentary seat by 1,293 votes. Other Cabinet ministers defended their seats in the states. Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik defended his parliamentary seat in Beruas with a 1,455-vote majority.
