India honours Dr Mahathir

NEW DELHI: India has bestowed the "the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding" on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his outstanding contribution in promoting close cooperation among developing countries. The jury consisting of seven eminent people, including the Chief Justice of India, is headed by Indian Vice-President K.R.Narayanan. Narayanan said Dr Mahathir has boldly and vigorously articulated the concerns of the developing countries. The jury said it decided to confer the award on Dr Mahathir "after careful consideration of the numerous nominations received from all over the world."
