RSAF's first Malay pilot

SINGAPORE: Lt Mohamad Zakir Abdul Hamid has created history by becoming the first Malay to be an air force pilot since Singapore achieved independence in 1965. "It was a fantastic feeling to win my wings," he said after receiving his wings from the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) chief-designate, Brig-Gen Bey Soo Khiang, on Thursday. "This is the beginning of a new phase of my career," the 23-year-old pilot said. Lt Zakir, who went through a two-year training stint at the RSAF Flying Training School, is undergoing further training as a Skyvan tranport aircraft pilot. In 1980, he won the coveted Sword of Honour as the best officer cadet trainee while undergoing his National Service.…
