Kelantan’s tithe rate remains at RM7 this year
KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) has set the tithe rate for this year at RM7. Its president, Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz, said the rate was the same as last year’s. However, he said, Muslims who wanted to pay RM14 or RM21 based on the price of rice they consumed were welcome to do so. “If a person wants to pay RM14 or RM21 for this year’s tithe, they are encouraged to do so.” Tengku Mohamad Rizam, who is also the Tengku Temenggong Kelantan, said the nisab value or the minimum amount that a Muslim must have before being obliged to pay property tithe was RM20,366.
