Dr Mahathir wins Jawaharlal Nehru Award

NEW DELHI, Thurs. - India has conferred the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the United News of India said today. It quoted Indian Vice President K.R. Narayanan, who headed the jury, as saying Dr Mahathir was selected for his outstanding contribution to building closer co-operation among developing countries and for his bold and vigorous articulation of their concerns. The award, named after India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, comprises a 1.5 million rupee (about RM106,721) cash prize, a citation and a trophy. - Reuter
