Pergau dam at standstill

JELI (Kelantan), Sun. - Work on the $1.3 billion Pergau hydro-electric dam came to a standstill today when the Kelantan Government closed another access road and private land owners told employees of the main contractor, Kerjaya Balfour-Beatty Cementation Berhad, to leave. The affected road at Batu 14 leads to a diversion tunnel where major work was being carried out. Early this morning, villagers in Kampung Bendang Lawa, near here, stopped vehicles belonging to KBBC and other contractors from entering the area where work was being carried out to prepare a tailrace outlet - a tunnel for water from the power station to flow out.
