IN the days before the Internet and mobile phones, seeing newspaper vendors riding their bicycles with stacks of newspapers in the morning was a welcome sight for many.

BATU PAHAT: Foo Chin Yen, 68, has been a newspaper vendor in Semerah, a small town about 20km north of here in Johor, since the 1970s when he took over the business from his father.

KUALA LUMPUR: Moses Edwin Gnanapragasam, 68, is among more than a dozen newspaper vendors who set up their “operations” on the sidewalks of the city centre here during the wee hours.

KUALA LUMPUR: Ganeson S.K. Muthu, 60, can be seen at a sidewalk in Lebuh Ampang here as early as 5am every day.
