KJ seeks RM2m in defamation suit

KUALA LUMPUR: Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin is pursuing RM2 million in damages in a defamation suit against preacher Rasyiq Alwi over alleged remarks regarding his vaccination status. During proceedings at the High Court on Tuesday, Khairy’s lawyer, Abdul Rashid Ismail, said Rasyiq had made defamatory statements on social media aimed at ridiculing his client, who had played a key role in coordinating Malaysia’s Covid-19 vaccination programme. Khairy initiated legal action in 2022, accusing Rasyiq of falsely claiming that he had misled the public about his vaccination status.
